What happens when music is not only something to listen to, but also something to look at? Utrecht-based composer, percussionist, and multidisciplinary maker Daniel Cross takes you through the making process of his new film and audiovisual installation Minami-no-tori , currently on view at the Centraal Museum.

Cross talks about the quest behind the work: how sound, image, language, and movement come together, and how, as a maker, you can tell a story without explaining everything. Minami-no-tori is about the rare metals hidden deep beneath the ocean floor and the paradox of technological progress: what we need to shape our future can simultaneously cause great damage.

But above all, this lunch lecture is about looking. About how art can shift your perspective, change your attention, and make you look at something you thought you already knew — in a completely different way.
